Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Hey guys, so I recently finished "Uglies" by Scott Westerfeld and I was surprised of how much I actually enjoyed it, I kept avoiding it because my friends told me that it was average and there where other books I should read but it was awesome.
Scott you are...
Uglies is set in a far future, supposedly three hundred years from now where the government provides for everything. Including a plastic surgery that everyone receives on the sixteen's birthday, the surgery transforms you from a repellent ugly to the society's standard "pretty". Once you are a pretty, you cross the river dividing the city's Uglies from Pretties. So first off there's Tally Youngblood who, like most Uglies, have been dreaming there whole life of becoming a pretty. Her dream is about to come true because in a few weeks she will have the operation. Her best friend is Peris who has already had the operation and is living his bubbly life in New Pretties Town. Tally always talks about how close she was to Peris and how lonely she feels without him so she sneaks into New Pretties Town and goes to his house, or to some party where he was and talks to him. At first I didn't like him, they were suppose to be best friends but from the scene he almost seemed scared to see Tally and tells her that she can't be there, to go back to Ugly Ville and meet again when she becomes a pretty. I would have been like...
But Tally kept her promise about not going back to New Prettis Town until she was turned. Then she found a friend, Shay :)) Shay is this strong minded girl who is not really into all that being turned "pretty" stuff. Shay and Tally are the same age so there operation is set on the same date but Shay keeps acting strange and makes the most of there "ugly" times, hover boarding and sneaking out to the ruins. The ruins are the only thing left from the Rusties which where the people that ruled the world before all the Pretties and new society. The Rusties where pretty much like us, they didn't have rings that talked and gave you advise, rooms that would automatically give you food or clothes from a hole on the wall whenever you asked but most importantly the Rusties didn't have an operation that turned you pretty and this seemed completety horrible for Tally. So one night before the big day Shay asks Tally if she wants to run away to the SMOKE... this super secret city ( its not really a city, but I will use that term anyway) where rebels who don't want to leave under the constant control of the government hide.
Tally, of course denies because being Pretty is the most important thing for her. It's normal for her to think that, after all she had been living in a place where to most people that is the most important thing. But Shay leaves her a note written in a secret code that explains the way to the Smoke. The next day Tally is ready for her operation but a very peculiar looking man comes to her and says "There's something wrong with your operation."
It's awesome and there are so many other characters that I didn't get to describe but I totally reccomend it ;)
